14 March 2021 Lonely Places

Hello to you how are you? I am doing pretty well after celebrating a couple of birthdays with family yesterday. When you live alone most of the time, having time with friends and family really helps a lot.

Since the divorce, I have been having to get used to my own company; thank God I have family here and Link. Doing life alone this past year has not been easy to do, I get really lonely a lot. The way I have found solace as of late is working on my relationship with God.

This passage stood out to me :

Luke 5:16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed .

In my opinion, Jesus was the rockstar of his time. It makes sense that from time to time he would seek seclusion with God. I can imagine him going to a spot in nature and having a nice chat with God. I can imagine the conversation, ” Hey Dad, it’s me Jesus. Did you see all the crowds today? Did I make you proud ?”

Sometimes we have to unplug from everything and everyone to hear God. A lot of people like to retreat to nature but it’s usually just to escape their hectic lives not just to be nearer to God. Ironically it is in nature’s whispers God can be heard the loudest. The breath of wind from a deep blue sky, the rippling of the waters and fields filled with the multitude of bird song all the ways God speaks. When I go to such lonely places I am ironically reminded of just how not alone I am. God is always with me.

13 March 2021 Walk

Hello to you how are you this day? I am doing pretty good. Just got back from a nice walk with Link. The past couple of days have been really beautiful – warm and sunny. I am looking forward to spring and more days like this.

Now you ask why the title “walk.” Well I asked for a topic and that is the word the came through loud and clear. May be my brain was catching up to that’s what we were doing at the time I asked lol! I don’t know! I looked up the word Walk in my NIV Bible and there are several references; like 211 of them. Here is one for example: John 8:12

12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Now to talk about walks/walking in the context of my daily life it’s a vital part of it. I can’t even say the word without Link perking his ears up! We try to get out at least once to two times a day if the weather is nice. Walking replaced running for me because my knees got bad from running so much when I was younger. Walking has always been a great therapy too – walk up to 40 minutes to kick in the “happy chemicals” in the brain.

Some of my best memories are from walks with my husband, family and friends. Seeing rainbows, flocks of birds, elaborate spider webs, trees and flowers. No matter how “ugly” the place I have been, I have always managed to find the beauty in the midst of it. When you walk with God you walk with all of your senses not just for exercise. I’m grateful that I am able to walk!

Lets see what the question I ask Link is in the numbers:

do you want to go for a walk?” in the English Ordinal system equals 282 (light and shadow process with eternity in between)

12 March 2021 Wisdom

Hi there! How are you in your where and when as you visit me here? I hope you are well. I am doing well. Last night my friend came by after work and we were treated to not one but three waves of migrating birds like the ones I had written about seeing in the morning! We think they are snow geese and it was amazing! She hadn’t see anything like that before!

We talked for quite awhile. Part of what we talked about was faith. I have been having a stumbling block about Jesus Christ being my one and only savior. She’s been patient with me and we read some scripture she referred to as the “Roman Road.” I am so grateful to have a dear friend helping me along on this journey I am on. Someone to help me with this seeking I am doing for God’s will in my life.

Well before bed I was praying and God put it on my mind to read Proverbs 2 2-3. I didn’t immediately leap out of bed and read it but remembered this morning to read it. As I read it I found it was perfect:

My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
indeed, if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,

and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
For the Lord gives wisdom;

wisdom” in the English Ordinal system equals 83

Yesterday I figured out something I can do while I wait for a specific call from God was pray for other people. My Aunt shared her list with me so I have a good start.

11 March 2021 Blue Sky “Wow”

Hello and good morning to you. How are you doing in your day thus far? I hope you are well. This morning I was seeking a topic and asked God about it and then almost on cue a huge formation of birds appeared in the sky! At first there were no words just the sound of the birds. Then the first word that came to my mind was “WOW!” The sky was such a clear blue so I could see the birds really clearly. I of course didn’t have any camera other than my two eyes. I guess this amazing sight was just for God and I to witness….”just for us.” Sometimes there are no words to be had just an awe inspiring sight. So much happens in the sky that if your not paying attention you will miss.

Genesis 1:8 NIV

“God called the expanse “sky” and there was evening and there was morning – the second day

blue sky” in the English Ordinal system equals 95 (no sensory experience – this makes sense as you can’t sense the sky, the sky just is)

24 September 2020 Who is God

Hello to you, how are you doing today?  I hope this finds you doing well in your here and now as you visit me here.

I was trying to think of what to write today and a conversation I just had on healthfulchats.com helped me.  A long while ago I had written a paper about my theory that the first great beings were trees and everything came after that.  I had it posted here but have long since deleted it, In Beginning was Symbiosis. Some of the oldest life forms on the planet are trees and a few of them are still around https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_trees.  Well thinking about that subject made me think about God and who God is.

People often ask me if I believe in God and I say yes. The natural tendency after that is to want to talk about the bible.  Then if I have chosen Jesus as my personal savior and to that that I always say Jesus is the best part of the book.  Who’s flesh and blood was sacrificed in those early years so that early Bible’s might exist?  Trees, animals and plants.

What I believe is the Earth is God and everything and everyone alive on top is an extension of God.  For every right there is a left aka cause and affect.  There is only good and evil depending on who is perceiving things.  People make things good and evil.   An example I used today about this was the dandelion.  To at least 5 or 6 species of insect the dandelion is a food source.  I witnessed this myself in my backyard.  So to much of creation the dandelion is food but to some people and a bunch of weed fertilizer companies, the dandelion is just a weed.  Who taught them it was just a weed?

Just like with most everything in existence, dandelions were created for a reason and have a reason for existence.  To me they are a flower with antioxident properties. A little info I found about dandelions there are tons of websites:  https://jhiblog.org/2020/05/20/a-dandelion-story-from-medieval-herbals-to-wholefoods/

21 August 2020 Getting Through Today

Hello to you, how are you?  I am living in a surreal world right now with the fires.  This morning while I was cutting the grass the sun was red!  So weird!  I didn’t take a picture of it but I’m sure somebody somewhere did!

Getting Through The Day” in the English Ordinal system equals 242 (light and shadow process for the brain to process light and shadow)

cat ” in the English Ordinal system equals 24

self” in the English Ordinal system equals 42

brain” in the English Ordinal system equals 44

As I sit here it has been hard to come up with something to write about.  My writing a blog is part of how I get through my day  and sometimes there are only a few words to say.  So much of my life I have had to discard because of what happened during my last episode.  So I am having to sift through the wreckage and retrieve what is worth retrieving.  My dear friend calls it reclaiming my life and it’s a slow process.

What of my life do I seek to realistically reclaim?

to reclaim a life” in the English Ordinal system equals 129 (one light and shadow process with “no” process)

There is a lot of my life I am afraid to try to reclaim, a lot of  the “no” process wrapped up in it.

It never ceases to amaze me how the number values reflect a truth that cannot come from a common definition or way of defining something by itself.

8 May 2020 Writing it out

Hello again.  It’s a gray and windy afternoon and I’m lonesome.  To help fill the void what seems to be working for me right now is walking and writing.  I’ve taken a couple of long walks already today so I figured I’d spend some more time writing.  I’ve been seeing a lot of other folks in our neighborhoods out walking too so I don’t think I’m alone with what I’m going through.

After reading this blog:  https://funfreedomfables.wordpress.com/2020/05/08/quarantine-loneliness/ I was reminded that if you try to outrun loneliness it will only chase you, you have to turn and face it.  So I’m turning and facing it with the tools available to me!  This blog!

I decided to try my hand at a short story with a tree theme in honor or my husband and my wedding anniversary today:

A long time ago there was a little seed that was born on the branch of a great oak tree.   When that seed was first formed it didn’t know how long it would be part of the oak tree that formed it.  The seed didn’t know where it would go should it have to leave the oak tree.  The rains came.  The sun shown.  The breath of morning, noon and night came and went.  The moon glowed and the stars shown.  The seed got bigger and bigger until one day the winds blew just right and the seed was forced from it’s branch on the parent oak.   The seed was large and plummeted noisely to the ground.  Once making purchase with the grass,  it rattled a little bit inside it’s shell then lay still.  Now came the waiting time.   Waiting to be chosen.

8 May 2020 an oak seed

The seed lay still on the spot to which it’s parent had dropped it for many days.  The rains came.  The sun shown,   The breath of morning, noon and night came and went.  The moon glowed and the stars shown.  The seed lay very still and waited to be chosen by one of the great Arborists  also known as squirrel.  It was the dream all oak seeds to be chosen for planting so they could create brand new great oak of their own!

Many other seeds lay on the ground all around this one seed.  Then the day came when the great Arborist started to examine the seeds to see which ones would be worthy for planting.  It was getting to be fall and the Arborist was planning ahead to colder times.  The Arborist picked up each seed and examined them very closely.  Occasionally they would shake a seed and listen carefully for just the right sound.  One by one, each seed was carefully examined until finally the great Arborist came to that one lone seed that had fallen seemingly so long ago.

At first it looked like the Arborist was going to reject the lonely seed.  They picked up and dropped the seed more than once.  They shook the seed and examined it in great detail before taking it into it’s mouth to nice patch of dirt and burying it.  Now the sleep slumbered.  The rains came.  The sun shown.  The breath of morning, noon and night came and went.  The moon glowed and the stars shown.  Then something magical happened, a sprout shot through the hard seed shell and dark soil.   The sprout reached up to the sky and thus was the beginning of a new oak tree.

Sometimes I feel a bit like the seed in this little story.   I have tried to bloom where I’ve been planted here in Alvarado, but I am feeling the winds blow in a new direction.  I am feeling a tug at my soul but I’m not exactly sure which direction.    What is the plan for me?  How can I be useful to my little family?  How can I best serve this world I love without being a burden to it?  I will try my best to remain vigilant and open minded.   God always has a plan.

7 May 2020 What to do with yourself

Hello to you.  How are you doing today?  Link and I have started to get in the patterns of the sun.  When it’s dark you go so sleep.  So here I am at the keyboard, artificial sunshine of coffee and computer screen on!  This is a process that will only last a short period of time and then I’ll have to figure out what to do next lol.  It’s better than laying in bed like I was doing, fretting about a bunch of stuff I can’t control!

Such is life these days right?  What to do with myself to keep busy but stay at home.  I’m sure if I were to peruse the internet right now I’d find all kinds of advice on what I could be doing.  I can turn on the news on any station and if it’s not covoid19 hysteria it’s other bored people, famous and not,  showing us what they are doing to not be bored at home.  Finding stuff do and being alone didn’t use to be a problem for me.  What happened is choice of whether to immerse or not immerse myself in the world has been pretty much removed.  If I go out into the world to do something, it’s getting groceries, an appointment or something pretty important I need to do.

Yesterday I shared some of my art supplies with our neighbor children.  We have a couple of Mom’s in the neighborhood with young children and it’s so challenging right now for them to keep the young one’s entertained.

The old standbys have always been drawing, writing and right now working on another corner to corner afghan.  I’ve even considered working on an edited version of a book I’ve already e-published, The Gospel According to Sam  (https://www.amazon.com/Gospel-According-Sam-Jackie-Wygant-ebook/dp/B00533VOTU) all proceeds going to charity.   The only part of me that seems to really be working right now is the writing.  I sit down to draw and  unlike years past, it’s just a blank page or trying to record what is in front of me.

6 May 2020 drawing I did last night of Link out in the backyard.

There are only so many words, so many drawings, paintings and creative ways to put together the same meals before you start to repeat yourself or others.   The other thing is I’m trying to downsize and reduce the amount of that stuff I want around the house.  Thank goodness for digital writing but even that isn’t without pitfalls…..you need a reliable way to store the media if you care to retrieve it later.  I had a hard drive I was using.  It got dropped one too many times and now the data is  is locked in there unless I can get someone with some skills to break them out!  I am having to learn to be a more transitory person and it’s hard.

So I have found myself asking, what does the God of my understanding want me doing right now?!  I want to be useful and help somehow so is my even sharing this today doing that?  Do my words here help alleviate boredom and the same things for someone other than myself?

It’s kind of like life in the extremes of weather be it extreme cold or extreme heat.  In either one, I have learned to hunker down and keep busy but sometimes my lesser natures take over and I gain weight.  Eating becoming an activity.  Thankfully here the weather has been nice so when I get really restless I put on my walking shoes and take Link out or go just by myself.  Walking does help!

Today I decided to look at the phrase staying busy.  I’m going to put all the values I’ve come up on my “travels” with gematria.  Sometimes to see the order in which I have found different number values is like a weird sentence lol:

staying busy” in the English Ordinal system equals 162 – a taking, train, insane, riches, torah, shift, poop, behaves, noise, hearing germs, right, under, humane, doubt, Queen, disease, favor, plasma, choices, under, right, audience, a miracle, polar.

one six two” in the English Ordinal system equals 144 – a mask, brain, clock, handle, hope, faith, cut, space, bored, talk.

one four four” in the English Ordinal system equals 154 – a love, sun, play, French, voice, eyes, chemical, health, acting, spar, breath, Bavaria, butch, pods, bodies, Gabriel, Mama bear, foodie, gnome, eyes

one five four” in the English Ordinal system equals 136 – a halo, child, hair, bite, heard, hug, have, asp, agree, chips

one three six” in the English Ordinal system equals 142 – a self, new, gift, balanced, rain, run, war, raw, rare, bitch, female, rebel, Odin, sub, tail

one four two” in the English Ordinal system equals 152 – a blonde, earth, seeds, caring, speak, what, thaw, hobby, disable, heart, Pope, kept, raise, create, spice, birds, devil, dog, pee, crop, ship, going, hobby, ashes, a glaze, thaw

one five two” in the English Ordinal system equals 134 – a cold, chance, free, hate, breed, heat

Now all of this said, I am not trying to invite drama into my life What I wish to invite into my life is a positive, loving way I can be of service to God as I understand them.

The last thing I want to be is a waste of space.  So I am going to trust that gradually, as I can handle it, God will show me great ways to be of service in this uncertain time.   May be in some way, I’m already doing it just blogging here?  May be somebody, that’s not me, will see my message here and get some relief from their personal struggles and be able to pass that light on to someone near or far in their own life?   That’s my hope!

The Beatitudes from the Bible. I am not a religious person, but very spiritual. Parts of the Bible like this are comforting I think.

8 February 2020 Amusing yourself

Hello to you.  It’s Saturday afternoon as I write to you in your here and now.  How are you?  I hope well.  I am having some shall I say, “alone time” right now and find myself challenged to find things to do.  Today I took out the trusty cribbage and chessboards and found myself quickly bored with the board lol.  I write and draw a lot, sometimes paint, take pictures, enjoy almost every genre of music (some more than others), love to dance and be physically active, enjoy good food, truly enjoy being outside with God and sometimes play a video game here and there.  I enjoy making things but don’t really have an outlet for the things I make.  I think it is safe to say, at least for my house, you can have too many home made blankets!  Hobbies can get expensive no matter what they are.  When you are on a fixed income you have to watch your spending, at least that has been my personal choice about it.

Living where I do, most of the activities that I could participate in require me to spend money.  Driving to even a “free” place can get expensive over time.  So I have learned to amuse myself the best I can in the parameters in which I live.  For many, I think, it would be quite a dull existence.

I have planted a seed, if you want to call it that, for the God of my understanding to gradually and tangibly, put people in my life that are interested in the sorts of things I am interested in.  Some time ago, I had a “tribe” here, but everyone went their separate ways and all are extremely busy with their lives and pursuit of their dreams and or livelihoods.   Some of what I’m interested in may be considered “fringe” type things – much of which is in the spiritual, scientific and paranormal realms.

Sometimes when you plant a seed with God it takes time and the right “soil” in which for the seed to germinate.

2 Sept 2019 Jackie Wygant cell phone picture horse apple tree next to abandoned house near The Family Dollar Alvarado TX

The other day I was walking to the Family Dollar down the street and happened to notice this beautiful tree living near an abandoned house across the street from our local Elementary School.  I got to thinking about how nice it would be if that property could be annexed to the school for learning about plants and nature; like a nature learning center or something.  There is a large field next to it I imagined being turned into a community garden and it could also be part of the learning center.  I imagined children learning how to grow their own food and appreciating nature like I do.

Facts and Myths of Hedge Apples
by Dr. Barbara Ogg, Extension Educator

This article appeared in the October 2001 NEBLINE Newsletter

This time of year, hedge apples – the fruit from the Osage-orange tree – are being sold at farmer’s markets, garden centers, and other locations. Many people have heard that these fruits can be used as an insect repellent, but the truth is that many people don’t know much else about this unusual tree and its fruit.

The Tree and Its Fruit:

Osage-Orange Tree - Click on Image for Larger ViewThe Osage-orange is a small to medium-sized tree, having a short trunk and a rounded or irregular crown. The twigs are buff to orange-brown and are armed with one-half inch long spines. The stems exude a milky sap when cut. The Osage-orange is dioecious, meaning that male and female flowers are produced on separate trees. The small, green flowers appear in May or June. Female trees produce 3-to 5-inch diameter fruit which ripen in September or October and fall to the ground.

Native Habitat and Current Distribution:

The Osage-orange is native to a small area in eastern Texas, southeastern Oklahoma, and southwestern Arkansas. This region is the home of the Osage Indians which gives the tree its common name. Settlers found that the Osage-orange transplanted easily, tolerated poor soils, extreme heat, and strong winds and had no serious insect or disease problems. It was widely planted in the Midwest as a living fence because, when pruned into a hedge, it provided an impenetrable barrier to livestock. The development of barbed wire curtailed its widespread planting, but many Osage-orange trees can still be found in fence rows.

Osage-orange fence post - Click on Image for Larger viewUses of the Osage-Orange:

The wood is extremely hard, heavy, durable and shrinks or swells little compared to the wood of other trees. The wood is used for fence posts, treenails, furniture, and archery bows. In fact, many archers consider the wood of the Osage-orange to be the world’s finest wood for bows. Another common name for this tree, bodark, is from the French bios d’arc meaning “bow wood.” This tree also produces a bright yellow dye which can be extracted from the wood.

The fruit of the Osage-orange is a nuisance in the home landscape and has little value. Hedge apples are not an important source of food for wildlife as most birds and animals find the fruit unpalatable. The thorny trees do provide nesting and cover for wildlife.

The belief about the use of hedge apples for insect control is widespread and persistent. it is claimed that placing hedge apples around the foundation or inside the basement will repel or control insects. A few years ago, Iowa State University toxicologists extracted compounds from hedge apples. When concentrated, these compounds were found to repel insects.

Scientists also found that natural concentrations of these compounds in the fruit were too low to be an effective repellent. So, don’t be fooled into spending much to use hedge apples as an insect repellent.

If you decide to pick hedge apples to check out the repellency yourself or to use the fruit as a fall decoration, it would be wise to wear gloves. The milky juice present in the stems and fruit of the Osage-orange can irritate the skin.
