Are you superstitious?

I don’t think I’ve ever been superstitious. Like having a lucky item or piece of clothing. I kind of had a thing about Friday the 13th for a time until my birthday was on that date and other people I know and love had it too. It wasn’t something to fear but something to celebrate.

What is your middle name? Does it carry any special meaning/significance?

My middle name is Joy and I’d like to think that’s because that’s what my parents felt when I was born. That’s what I’ve been told they felt when I arrived!

What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain.

I don’t really have a question I hate to be asked. I am really an open book about most things. Almost to a fault I am open about myself.

What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

I think the experiences I have learned and grown the most from have been adversities. When life is easy and care free I can get settled in my ways. Working through adversity requires critical thinking sometimes. Thinking outside the box – the norm.

What bores you?

I would have to say nothing really bores me right now. I am in a in between time in my life and gradually my days are beginning to fill up with interesting moments. Being medically retired at such an early age I am learning from my Aunts age group about retirement (70’s).

On the 13th my cousin and I celebrated our birthdays 4 years apart. He celebrated the big 60 and I 56th. We are going to have a family gathering tomorrow. My Aunt took me to our favorite place in Star called the Rustic Table on my birthday and that was delicious. I had filet mignon and we had chocolate cream pie for the birthday dessert. What a treat! It’s a blessing we get to celebrate birthdays together!

The most important invention in your lifetime is…

I would have to say WiFi and cell phones are the most important inventions of my time. I can remember life before it and it was a lot different! I remember time without a cell phone – the closest thing was a CB radio! My Uncle Ronnie used the CB in his truck to let us know he was coming instead of using a regular phone. I remember dial up modems (DSL). It was so unpredictable and unstable. Up until few years ago my ex and I just had flip phones and hardly used them. Now we have smart phones and I don’t know what I’d do without them!

How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

In my experience the best healer of the wounds of life is time. The further I get along beyond a significant event that has happened the less it hurts. There is no cure for grief but time. My cocker spaniel Sam taught me this after his passing. It took 3 years and getting another dog to get some relief from my grief over Sam’s passing. When we lost Sam we realized nothing of this world could fill the void inside- no food, no drink, no material possessions could heal the pain.

What’s the thing you’re most scared to do? What would it take to get you to do it?

The thing I am most scared to do is jump out of an airplane. It took me a few minutes to decide on that but I think that’s definitely at the top of the list. I don’t know what it would take to get me to do it as I don’t think I would even consider it! I would probably have to be blind folded or something.

What do you complain about the most?

I would have to say I complain the most about my health. Within the past couple of years my health has taken a down turn. Today my doctor said my blood work and thyroid are fine. I’ve been scheduled for an EKG next month to make sure my heart is ok as I’m getting winded so easily. He is also sending me a topical treatment for my back and prescribing vitamin D as I was showing a low there. Getting older sucks! I remember a time when nothing bothered me physically! It seems like the fall I had a couple winters ago really has taken a toll on me – especially my back. It makes it hard to lose weight and be more active with a hurt back. The other thing is the tightness in my ears and rolling sensation when I walk. I worry sometimes that I’m going to trip and fall. Anyhew, my health is definitely what I complain about the most these days.
