19 May 2018 Royal Wedding (Sheku Kanneh-Mason) and Are we going to end up like planet Krypton?

Hello to you.  Today has been very slow here….something happened with some hair color and now I look like an orange lol.  I guess I didn’t have as many gray hairs as I thought!

We caught the royal wedding just in time.  We hadn’t planned on watching it and we really enjoyed it.  The cello solo by Sheku Kanneh-Mason was a highlight for me.  This isn’t from the wedding but a great example of what we heard today:

Sheku Kanneh-Mason – Leonard Cohen: Hallelujah, arr. Tom Hodge

I’ve had planet Krypton on the brain today.  Ever since I saw an article about a climate conference where they were wondering if falling rocks are contributing to climate change:  https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/gop-congressman-mo-brooks-asks-if-rocks-are-causing-sea-levels-to-rise/ar-AAxroCn.…”GOP congressman Mo Brooks asks if rocks are causing sea levels to rise”

Yes, you aren’t dreaming, that really came up in discussion.  It made me think of what happened with Superman’s home planet Krypton before it blew up: http://superman.wikia.com/wiki/Krypton

Hopefully we aren’t going to end up like that!  We had a 3.5 earthquake just last night in a town near us, Venus! https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/).

18 May 2018 Collage and Low Tide

Hello to you.  I hope this finds you well.  I’ve been very tired the past couple of days and just wanting to sleep.  Kyle thinks it’s probably me just coming down from the past few months of an extreme high.  He’s probably right.  The cycles are very taxing for me and the older I get, the more difficult they can be.  So my little travel buddy Link and I just have been resting as we can and trying to restore the ol’ battery.   My life can be  like the ocean currents with the high and low tides.

The drawing today is a collage of stuff I’ve been watching and thinking about lately…all just floating out there in the collective conscious space.

I am sad to see so many more shootings in this country, the latest in Sante Fe Texas….a 17 year old kid too! (http://abc13.com/10-dead-10-injured-in-shooting-at-santa-fe-high-school/3490869/)!  What is sad for me is these shootings are taking place in homes and schools.  Our kids are supposed to be safe in their homes and at school and they aren’t.  Even with all the new security and open carry laws, it’s just not getting much better.  We keep putting band-aids on top of what the real problems are like allowing so many troubled people access to a tool they can use in an act of passion (not self defense).  A tool they end up using to do something they can’t ever take back.  It’s not just the victims and their families that suffer either, it’s all of us! It is essentially an act of terrorism to go into a public place and shoot people.  Why these types of shootings are not treated at as an act of terrorism I don’t know but that’s what it is.  Now you have a whole bunch of people who are afraid to send their kids to school and go out into public places again.  Every time this kind of shooting happens in this country, it is an act of terrorism.

16 May 2018 Is this all just a dream?

Hello to you.  It is Wednesday in my timeline but it feels like Friday already!  Had a fun dream this morning.  I was with an old co-worker from when I was working in Personnel Systems Management for the Air Force.  I bent a piece of metal with my mind and levitated a rose quartz crystal – apparently my right hand was stronger in the dream for such things lol!  My friend was in disbelief at what he had seen, so I repeated it.  I told Kyle this is why I enjoy the dream world so much.  In the dream realm I fly invisible ships, have wings, can just jump and fly out of a tree.  In my dreams I can visit other worlds and as of last night,  bend metal and levitate crystals with my mind!  Way cool!

Speaking of dreams.  Yesterday we “publicked” and went and got the tires on our car rotated and did a Target run for our favorite liquid soap, Dr. Bronners: (https://www.drbronner.com/).  Exciting right?!  Well when we checked out at Target, the clerk named Robbin seemed to be having a day like I mentioned to you, that surreal feeling like nothing is real…like everything is just a dream.  I took her hands in mind to try to reassure her we were all real.  She still was left wondering about reality but a little more grounded I think!  I guess working in a place like Target could put you in that state of mind!  So many nice things that most of us can’t really afford.  We wandered around in there and talked ourselves out everything but absolute essentials.  Not easy!  I’m pretty sure Robbin’s wages don’t allow her to buy much where she works.

Dreamt about some men this morning who looked like they may be from Hawaii or Samoa (been praying for Hawaii a lot lately!).  One of them was playing an instrument that I have come to find out today actually exists!  The Coconut Thumb Piano, Kalimba or a Mbira which actually has origins in Africa:

(Redirected from Thumb piano) The mbira is an African musical instrument consisting of a wooden board (often fitted with a resonator) with attached staggered metal tines, played by holding the instrument in the hands and plucking the tines with the thumbs.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thumb_piano

Origin

It is said that before globalisation, these instruments could only be found in Africa and where African descendants lived. Therefore, the thumb piano we know in the West, called kalimba, is a modernized version of its African ancestors.

Many tribes, all across the continent, have developed their own unique thumb pianos over the centuries. Because the languages and cultures of these tribes vary so much, so do the names and traditions of their instruments.

13 May 2018 Dreaming stone (Labradorite) and Mom’s Day

Hello to you.  Today has been a really  nice day.  My sweetheart cooked us dinner while I was outside drawing and sweating – really warm and humid today.

13 May 2018 – this drawing is me thinking of myself as a baby blue dragon clutching my labradorite ball last night. I had like 2 or 3 lucid dreams in a row! One of them is represented by the little black girl holding a pink crystal necklace. She wanted to take it and I told her no. There is also a box represented by the realtor like lady from one of the dreams last night. There is a box with two people with huge dogs – these special beautiful beings seem to show up and just disappear for me. The dogs they are with are almost like spirits more than dogs.

Hope all the folks that nurture others are having a special day.   The term “Mom” isn’t just for women in my book.  I called my Mom today and it was hard because there was so much I wanted to say but tears got to me first.  For all my Mom and I have been through, I just dearly love her and am so grateful for all the important things she managed to get through my thick skull.  This is her first Mother’s Day without her Mom and I can only imagine how surreal that would be if I were in her shoes.  We lost Grandma a couple of months ago.  We had all been praying for her to “be free” but as we all know, it’s not all up to us with these sort of things.

13 May 2018 – drawing I did after I talked to Mom

As I mentioned in my notes with the drawing, last night I decided to sleep with my Labradorite crystal ball and it was like one lucid dream after another.  This hasn’t happened to me in a long time.    Both of the orbs I have are in the picture.  Do you have a favorite crystal for dream travels?

What is Labradorite?

Labradorite Gemstone Information

About Labradorite – History and Introduction

Labradorite is a gemstone that was named after Labrador in Canada, where it was found on the Isle of Paul, near Nain in 1770. It has since been found in other places, including Finland, Madagascar, and Australia. After its discovery, labradorite became popular with the missionaries. Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar which shows adularescence (a white or bluish light seen when turned). This optical effect is so unique to labradorite that it has been termed “labradorescence”. It is the result of diffraction of light in the layers of rock. When viewed at certain angles, labradorite exhibits such captivating color that has led to Inuit legends stating that the Northern Lights shone down on the shores of Labrador and were captured inside these colorful stones. The most highly valued labradorite is material that shows the full spectrum of color in its labradorescence. Labradorite that does not exhibit labradorescence can still make beautiful gemstones because of aventurescence, which is a glitter caused by diffraction of light from mineral platelets.

There are three further types of labradorite; spectrolite, andesine-labradorite and rainbow moonstone (which is sometimes referred to by the trade name, “Madagascar moonstone”). As the trade name indicates, rainbow moonstone comes from Madagascar and it has an intense blue schiller. Spectrolite is a rare labradorite from Finland. It is known for displaying a beautiful spectral play of color, hence the name, “spectrolite”. Andesine-labradorite is created by enhancing the color of labradorite.

Labradorite Gemstone Mythology, Metaphysical and Alternative Crystal Healing Powers Back to Top

According to an Inuit legend, the Northern Lights are captured in the minerals on the coast of Labrador. This is not surprising considering the magical, iridescent color of labradorite. Labradorite is thought to be a magical stone that possesses powerful protective properties and helps its wearer to find their true path in life. It is thought to “bring light” to the otherwise unknown, and thus provide its wearer with insight. Additionally, labradorite is credited with having the ability to bring out the positive in people and calm overactive minds, bringing peace to its wearer. Labradorite is also thought to soothe menstrual problems, aid disorders of the lungs, prevent colds, help with digestion and regulate both metabolism and blood pressure. In traditional Hindu belief systems, labradorite is associated with the throat chakra, or vishuddha, which is the center of purification. The throat chakra is associated with hearing, speech and self-expression. Wearing labradorite is thought to contribute to true and honest expression. Labradorite is said to facilitate communication between the spiritual and physical world, helping its wearer to recall dreams and experiences from past lives. It is therefore thought to help bring out psychic abilities.

29 April 2018 Who should get the “credit” for creation?

Hello to you.  I’m up early this morning and was thinking about something that has come to me before.  Who gets the “credit” for what we create in this world?  Credit can be in the context of just pats on the back or accolades.  Credit can also mean, in our modern world,  financial support.  When I create, I’m not really looking for either, it used to, but not anymore.  The reason this came up in my thoughts?  I was I was going to try to put my initials and date on the drawings I’m sharing today and realized that it really doesn’t matter all that much!  They don’t belong to me really, they belong to a power greater than myself.  They belong to the God of my understanding, energy and energy is everyone and everything….the collective consciousness.

When I do something creative, I feel like I’m tapping into the collective consciousness.  After all, I my opinion, there really isn’t such a thing as an original idea just a reinterpretation of one that has already come before.  Even what I am writing at this moment doesn’t really belong to me in a sense.  Only when my ego needs a stroke do I really care about such things!  Sometimes I can be pretty hard on myself.  When I get like that, my self-esteem plummets pretty low.  I will sometimes look for a source outside of myself to somehow lift myself up.  Ironically, this was the driving force behind me using Facebook to share my drawings and stuff!

Since I seldom turn a profit for what I channel aka “create”, I think that’s about as pure as it gets.  Why should I get hung up on labeling my work?  The only reason that comes to mind, is kind of like from that Big Eyes movie when the husband tried to take credit and actually profit from his wife’s work.  The karmic resolution to that took place in a courtroom.  The judge put the husband and wife to work at blank canvas painting and the husband was unable to recreate his wife’s paintings.

Amy Adams and Margaret Keane tell Big Eyes Movie Story (I wonder if all the folks involved with this film, to include Margaret, receive money for sales of this film?  Not quite sure how that works.)

So should I consider copywriting everything I do?  I guess if I decided that I was going to try and make a living doing what I do but what a struggle that would be!  Whenever I have tried to make money doing something it has often turned into a negative thing.  I have very few positive experiences with making money for what I have made.  The only ways  it has been positive is when I do something for a gift or someone has asked me to make something and they provided the financial support and or materials for me to do it.  I think making things and churning them out for profit would be very pretty empty for me.  Something else I’ve realized, like blogging here for example, as soon as I upload anything into this artificial collective consciousness, the internet, I give away any all the relevance of ownership in my opinion.  Anyone can save my pictures to their hard drive and “make them their own” as I’ve done with other artists work.

Why do I create?  What is my motivation?  My motivation is most often having the feeling I get by being close to God.  It feels good!  It’s like having a conversation without words and it makes me feel complete inside.  Then, out of gratitude, I feel I have to pass it all on to help somebody else like I do here in this blog.   Isn’t this the way God, divinity….whatever your word for the energy that propels you through this life supposed to be?  A power greater than ourselves that unconditionally loves and accepts us even if we make a drawing that looks like a child may have done it?

Matthew 19:14 14Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

No one, no matter how hard they try can exactly replicate what I do.  Kind of like forgeries and copies….they will always be forgeries and copies but never the original work as it was first channeled through me.  So I’m not very worried about it anymore.   I feel bad for people in this world who do get so hung up on ownership versus staying in the flow of creation.  It must be such a fight everyday to keep what they perceive belongs to them!  I would say this is especially true for anyone who makes a living on their image and creative endeavors in any profession.  I wonder what would happen if they just let go of that?

What has come to me in meditations with the God of my understanding (I use the word God because it’s simpler) many times is nothing belongs to us but perhaps one thing, the essence of who we are inside.  The energy ball, the soul, part of our being that makes us uniquely “us” no matter what outside forces may try to change it.  I imagine that when our bodies are tired and must be returned back to the earth, we just move on and become something or someone else but we are not lost.  The unconditional, loving energy of existence makes sure we are never truly lost.   We just become something a little different but just the same.

These drawings I did yesterday were made for me and for someone else to enjoy and I hope you do:

Lyrics

 Song for Someone

You got a face not spoiled by beauty
I have some scars from where I’ve been
You’ve got eyes that can see right through me
You’re not afraid of anything they’ve seen
I was told that I would feel nothing the first time
I don’t know how these cuts heal
But in you I found a rhyme

If there is a light
You can’t always see
And there is a world
We can’t always be
If there is a dark
Now we shouldn’t doubt
And there is a light
Don’t let it go out

And this is a song
A song for someone
This is a song
A song for someone

You let me into a conversation
A conversation only we could make
You break and enter my imagination
Whatever’s in there
It’s yours to take
I was told I’d feel nothing the first time
You were slow to heal
But this could be the night

If there is a light
You can’t always see
And there is a world
We can’t always be
If there is a dark
Within and without
And there is a light
Don’t let it go out

And this is a song
A song for someone
This is a song
This is a song for someone

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

And I’m a long way
From your hill of Calvary
And I’m a long way
From where I was, where I need to be
If there is a light
You can’t always see
And there is a world
We can’t always be
If there is a kiss
I stole from your mouth
And there is a light
Don’t let it go out

28 Dec 2017 Crafts, Gratitude and Destino (Flow Art Station: A Salvador Dalí and Walt Disney Collaboration Circa 1945)

Good morning to you.  How are you doing?  I’m doing pretty good.  Just trying to stay in a heartspace of gratitude today.  Flow Art Station shared this collaboration between artist Salvador Dali and Walt Disney that I had never seen before and I really enjoyed it.  Passing it on!

Destino: A Salvador Dalí and Walt Disney Collaboration Circa 1945

Destino: A Salvador Dalí and Walt Disney Collaboration Circa 1945

‘A magical display of the problem of life in the labyrinth of time.’ – d

The film Destino tells the story of Chronos, the personification of time and the inability to realize his desire to love for a mortal. The scenes blend a series of surreal paintings of Dali with dancing and metamorphosis. The poetic, wordless animation features a score by Mexican composer Armando Dominguez performed by Dora Luz.

The target production began in 1945, 58 years before its completion and was a collaboration between Walt Disney and the Spanish surrealist painter, Salvador Dalí. Salvador Dali and Walt Disney Destiny was produced by Dali and John Hench for 8 months between 1945 and 1946. Dali, at the time, Hench described as a “ghostly figure” who knew better than Dali or the secrets of the Disney film. For some time, the project remained a secret. The work of painter Salvador Dali was to prepare a six-minute sequence combining animation with live dancers and special effects for a movie in the same format of “Fantasia.” Dali in the studio working on The Disney characters are fighting against time, the giant sundial that emerges from the great stone face of Jupiter and that determines the fate of all human novels. Dalí and Hench were creating a new animation technique, the cinematic equivalent of “paranoid critique” of Dali. Method inspired by the work of Freud on the subconscious and the inclusion of hidden and double images. Dalí said: “Entertainment highlights the art, its possibilities are endless.” The plot of the film was described by. Dalí as “A magical display of the problem of life in the labyrinth of time.” Walt Disney said it was “A simple story about a young girl in search of true love.”

19 Nov 2017 Meditations (wasp), FFXIV Warrior of Light and hot glue gun ring

Hello to you – just popping in on this beautiful Sunday .  Hope this finds you well.  The pictures are just some random things from the past couple of days.  For my meditations the past couple of years, I’ve started using things like statues etc., as part of my experience.  Yesterday I realized I was kind of doing something that Henry Thoreau talked about in his book Walden.  It’s the part when he noticed how much different objects he had in his home looked when he took them outside when he had to clean the floor.  He was right!  The sunlight on an object versus artificial light of most homes really does change how an object appears.

“It was pleasant to see my whole household effects out on the grass, making a little pile like a gypsy’s pack, and my three-legged table, from which I did not remove the books and pen and ink, standing amid the pines and hickories.  They seemed glad to get out themselves, and as if unwilling to be brought in.  I was sometimes tempted to stretch an awning over them and take my seat there.  It was worth the while the see the sun shine on these things, and hear the free wind blow on them; so much more interesting objects look out of doors than in the house.” – Walden by Henry David Thoreau

My dream factory last night melded a lot of what I’ve been watching, reading and thinking about lately all into one.  In one of the dreams last night I was in the woods and walked by a tiny home that was painted blood red inside and all it had was a built-in-dresser.  Then there were two tall blonde men standing near a stream in the woods talking to me.  They looked familiar, like Ragnar and Bjorn from Vikings.  They were talking about buying a small fishing cabin.  I can remember hearing the voice of a man out of visual range of the two men I was talking to adding to the conversation.  There was something about Psalms from the bible, my mind wants to say it was 137,  but I’m not sure.  It does correlate a bit to talking to the two men at the stream.

Psalm 137New International Version (NIV) – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%20137

Psalm 137

By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept
    when we remembered Zion.
There on the poplars
    we hung our harps,
for there our captors asked us for songs,
    our tormentors demanded songs of joy;
they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”

How can we sing the songs of the Lord
    while in a foreign land?
If I forget you, Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its skill.
May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem
    my highest joy.

Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did
    on the day Jerusalem fell.
“Tear it down,” they cried,
“tear it down to its foundations!”
Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,
happy is the one who repays you
according to what you have done to us.
Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks.

‘Vikings’ Renewed for Season 6 at History Ahead of Season 5 Premiere

The hot glue gun ring is me experimenting…at play.  I had bought what’s called a “candle ring” from a neighbors garage sale a while ago and it tarnished on me like rings of that quality tend to do.  I really liked the setting design and the red crystal in it.  So this morning I tried to make a wire wrap ring using the stone and it didn’t work.  What I came up with was a mess.  So a thought occurred to me to try to make a ring out of hot glue and set the loose stone in it.  Why not?!  Well it came out pretty cool lol.  I have no idea how durable it is or how long it will last but it was fun.  I have had more fun with the hot glue gun.  Kyle brought it home several years ago now after he was done with it in his welding classes.  They used Styrofoam and the hot glue guns to practice welding things together before actually trying to weld metal together.

23 Aug 2017 Eyes

Hi there!  How are you doing from where and when you are?  It’s 8:35 am on this Wednesday morning.  I don’t have an appetite this morning and haven’t been sleeping well for several weeks now.  I think it’s how busy I’ve been in the dream realms.  There have been lots of dreams.  So many I can’t keep track of them enough when it comes time to write them down.  Just before I woke up this morning, there was something about an elderly man and some sort of medical procedure that was helping his wife.  There was some liquid – thinking this was inspired by my interest in Keshe Foundation plasma.  The liquid was milky white like the stuff in the batch I have beside my bed.  Just before I woke up he received a call on a digital device from his wife, it was good news.  Wouldn’t it be nice to think that somewhere in the world this was really happening for someone?

Last night before bed I went out and did a silly chalk drawing to add to the mural I’ve got going on our back patio.  At first it was just one eye and then I decided to make a bunch more in the circles.  I’ve been having a little dry spell in my creativity flow….that’s o.k. because my chalks are almost used up except for the colors I don’t use very often lol!  Looking at it this morning, the drawing looks like something Pablo Picasso might have dreamt up!

Thank you for stopping by to visit here whether it was intentional or not.  Knowing my ramblings and scribbles might be a positive point in anyone’s day gives me encouragement to keep at it.  Much love and light to you and yours!

‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain’d,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be asham’d,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come ’round right.

24 April 2017 Pain, Symbol message and Streams in the Desert reading for today about Faith

Good evening to you. I have had kind of a surreal day. I just mostly wanted to sleep and did so for most of it! Kyle assures me they are almost done with this outage and for his sake I hope so. We had an ice pack on his neck tonight because it was hurting him so bad. He said it felt like someone had hit him on the neck with a baseball bat! The pain in his next went from the inside to the outside! Between me, Peppermint oil and an ice pack we got him some mobility back but he’s still in a lot of pain. He knows about how pain is usually a physical manifestation of something emotional and or spiritual. I told him I think what’s been going on in his throat and neck is a physical manifestation of his having been so anxious and worried about being perfect for this outage. The night shift aspect I’m sure hasn’t been helping his immune system either. We can do any number of external things to assuage the physical pain but to truly negate it, the inside aspect of why the pain exists must be dealt with too. That I can’t help him with!

The past couple days I’ve drawn a symbol on my hand and then this morning it became a chalk drawing. Not sure what it can mean but the 1-2-3-4 “Dance” part does mean something to me. Sometimes when I’m really into my music and movement that I do outside or the “zone”, I’ll notice an effortless pattern, like a dance going on all around me. It’s like you count to 4 and a bird will appear and again a car will go by and again a plane will fly overhead and again an insect will buzz by and so on. It’s pretty cool!

I typed up the Streams in the Desert reading for today because it’s about one of my favorite subjects – Faith!

Over the years I’ve had to let go of how I used to pray about things. In the past I was so specific and put way too much “mind” into things and then I wondered why my prayers seemed to go unheard! When you attach expectations to something like a prayer and your expectations aren’t met….well it feels like what’s the point of praying! You can develop a resentment towards the God of your understanding. Well God isn’t a lotto machine or a wishing well! I had to learn that one too! The way I pray now about anything is very simple, “I pray for the greatest, most loving good for (person, place or thing). Not as I would have it, but as you would.” Then I just let go! More prayers I’ve said with no strings attached have been answered then ever with me still holding on. It’s takes time for God to answer prayers too….God is not a Genie in a bottle either where things just instantly change or get taken care of! Along with Faith you must find Patience….letting God be God and getting out of the way of the spiritual work that needs to happen for our prayers to be answered.

“Faith is…..the evidence of things not seen.” (Heb. 11:1)

True faith drops its letter in the post office box, and lets it go. Distrust holds on to a corn of it, and wonders that the answer never comes. I have some letters in my desk that have been written for weeks, but there was some slight uncertainty about the address or the contents, so they are yet unmailed. They have not done either me or anybody else any good yet. They will never accomplish anything until I let them go out of my hands and trust them to the postman and the mail.

This the way with true faith. It hands its case over to God, and then He works. That is a fine verse in the Thirty seventh Psalm: “Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in Him, and He worketh.” But He never worketh till we commit. Faith is a receiving or better still, a taking of God’s proffered gifts. We may not believe, and come and commit, and rest; but we will not full realize all our blessings until we begin to receive and come int the attitude of abiding and taking. -Days of Heaven upon Earth.

Dr. Payson, when a young man, wrote as follows, to an aged mother, burdened with intense anxiety on account of the condition of her son; “You give yourself too much trouble about him. After you have prayed for him, as you have done, and committed him to God, should you not cease to feel anxious respecting him? The command, “Be careful for nothing,” is unlimited; and so is the expression “Casting all your care on him.” If we cast our burdens upon another, can they continue to press upon us? If we bring them away with us from the Throne of Grace, is it evident we do not leave them there. With respect to myself, I have made this one test of my prayers: if after committing anything to God, I can, like Hannah, come away and have my mind no more sad, my heart no more pained or anxious, I look upon it as one proof that I have prayed in faith; if I bring away my burden, I conclude that faith was not in exercise.”

26 Feb 2017 Problems with owning a home built on expansive clay soil, outdoor chalk drawings, Three Ways to Keep Technology From Ruining Your Relationships (Daily Good Christine Carter)

Good morning family, how are you doing?  It’s 9:13 am as I write to you this increasingly cloudy Sunday morning.  May be it will rain, we could use more water here for as I write to you, I just heard another loud pop from the ceiling cracking in our bedroom lol.

Our house is built on a slab directly atop expansive clay soil.  When this kind of soil dries out it expands creating deep cracks and fissures.  Our house, not built with expensive piers or a deep poured foundation with flexible rebarb reinforcements, gets twisted like a pretzel every time we go through a dry spell.  The way most people combat this problem is having sprinkler systems installed around the perimeters of the house or soaker hoses set up.  The only problem with this, city water is so expensive!   We’ve spent a lot of money on interior repairs and exterior repairs (had 13 piers put in under our existing foundation) that get undone just about as soon as they are done because of this condition.  So fair warning to those looking to buy homes that are built on soil like here in North Texas, do your homework first!

Getting Control of Expansive Soil

Expansive soil, also called shrink-swell soil, is a very common cause of foundation problems. Depending upon the supply of moisture in the ground, shrink-swell soils will experience changes in volume of up to thirty percent or more. Foundation soils which are expansive will “heave” and can cause lifting of a building or other structure during periods of high moisture. Conversely during periods of falling soil moisture, expansive soil will “collapse” and can result in building settlement. Either way, damage can be extensive.

So I spend a lot of time outside so I don’t focus on this stuff too much lol.  It’s just frustrating for us to spend money that feels like we own a swimming pool or a boat instead of a house.  When we get some money together we will be looking for someone to do the exterior woodwork of the house with hopes that will be a fix that holds up for more than a couple of months!  These are the kinds of things they don’t figure in when they tell you that you qualify to buy a used house.  This is probably why so many people choose to buy new ones if they can afford it.

Anyhew….back to brevity.  Did a lot of chalk drawings outside yesterday and just enjoyed the beautiful day with clear blue skies.  Hope you have a lovely rest of whatever day it is for you as you visit.  Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate it!

Three Ways to Keep Technology from Ruining Your Relationships

Jan 8, 2017— We all know there’s nothing like a warm smile, loving hug, sympathetic eyes, shared laughter, or long talks. These are the things that make us human and happy, and they are best done in person. Yet sometimes we are too busy to get together. Enter technology, with promises of improving relationships. However tempting, technology needs to be limited. While Facebook, Instagram, and e-mail give us the ability to reach and learn about more people, the parts about the experience that are lacking — vulnerability and intimacy — are the ones that bring us closer. Similarly, smartphones make us available 24/7, but this can mean constant interruptions. These can cause tiny tears in the fabric of our relationships that can eventually add up to real damage to happiness. In this article, learn three ways to prevent the damage that technology can do to our real-life experiences.
