This afternoon was about rain and a lot of it – what a blessing! Our yard out back is finally starting to heal. What happens to the expansive clay soil we live on reminds me of how my hands crack, split and bleed when they get too dry. The healing balm of rain has been applied with wonderful results!
I baked a white cake (box mix as I haven’t found a white cake recipe I like yet) and some bread from scratch. Baking bread can be very therapeutic – the kneading part especially! I figured since I couldn’t really be outside like I normally do I may as well do something productive. I’ve been inspired by our watching The Great British Baking Show. We finished Season 1 just today. We love to watch these types of shows because they are positive and even in this instance, educational! We’ve seen cakes made that defy reality – 20 tiny layers of cake in one?! Or this:
A Kugelhopf Cake is a German yeast-risen sweet, rich bread baked in a special fluted tube pan called a Kugelhopf pan. There will be nuts, candied fruits and raisins or currants in the dough.
Looking forward to the next season. I find I get so attached to people in shows like this lol! It’s always sad to see them go.
