14 April 2017 Chalk Drawings, repairs and quotes

Good evening to you.  I spent some time with my outdoor chalks today and a couple of faces emerged.  Both of them are familiar to me.  One reminds me of my friend Daniel only his hair and beard are much better kept and the other is a cross between Peter Pan and a picture I saw this morning of Benedict Cumberbatch as a young boy with his theatre friends (fan page FB post).  As I say, I’m never quite sure who will show up for me, I just draw them and am usually delighted.

This afternoon I spent some time addressing our rotting wood on the house issue.  Until Kyle is done with this outage, we can’t really address the problem and I want us to do it together.  We are thinking about talking to someplace like Home Depot to start.

The fix I did is a temporary sort but hopefully it will hold.  No, this repair, unlike the kitchen sink repair we did at one point, didn’t involve duct tape LOL.  I’m not a carpenter or really very good at DIY type stuff but I try to do what I can.  Anyhew, the wood has become so fibrous that I found ants were starting to colonize in the framing of one of the windows!  So I removed the worst of it that was close to the patio slab and got all the exposed parts covered.

What I’d like to do is get permanent siding to replace the wood, get rid of the pergola and install gutters.  Very expensive in total to do but we will talk to some professionals and see what we can afford to get done.  Kyle was talking about he and I being able to get rid of the pergola on our own; we just don’t have any way to haul it off once we get it down.  When they attached it, they put it right next to the house without any way for rainwater from the roof to drain off.   It falls directly on the slab and that’s why all the wood on that side of the house is rotting out so bad….no gutters.  I don’t understand why gutters aren’t standard on every house but they aren’t here.  So anyways, this is the stuff they don’t figure in when they approve you for a home loan nor do they cover in your homeowners insurance lol.  I’m guessing to get all we want done could run us $7-10,000 to get it done right.  We’ll get it sorted as we can.

I will be taking a couple days away I think and I wish you love and good tidings for this holiday weekend.  Whatever it means to you, however you choose to celebrate I hope within those moments there will be love, joy and laughter….lots of great memories for you and those you share the time with!

Some quotes from the Daily Good page that resonated tonight:

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth.”
Mohammed Ali

The soil is the great connector of our lives, the source and destination of all.
Wendell Berry

The keenest sorrow is to recognize ourselves as the sole cause of all our adversities.
Sophocles

Those who wish to sing, always find a song.

  1. I love al those quotations. You are very talented with the chalks. Have a peaceful few days off. I’m sure you and Kyle don’t need telling, but please take care of each other.
We lost our friend this evening. With love to you and great sadness in my heart xxx

    • Thank you my friend. I enjoy drawing them. Sally is this the neighbor you told me about?! I’m so sorry to read this! If it was your neighbor with cancer I want to believe they are not in pain anymore and are on to their next great adventure…they had their 2nd birthday. We get two – one when we arrive and one when we leave…least that’s what I like to think. I send you hugs, comfort and love back across the waters. Please pass on my condolences!

  2. all paws and fingers are crossed for your project… and no duct tape is included? It is the stuff what holds the world together… according to Mark ;O)))))
