Hi there! I’m trying to unwind a bit after our deciding to go out for a bit this afternoon. Figured I’d write to you now since I’m probably going to try and sleep in tomorrow….we had yet another night of Kyle waking up very early and my having trouble going back to sleep!
Anyhew. The drawing I did this afternoon is about how I perceive each of us as being a piece of the sun….a spark of the one flame….the “light” is within each of us from the moment we are born and it burns until the moment we die and may be even after that….just disembodied for a time! No one really knows for sure but that’s what I was thinking when I drew this!
So this afternoon Kyle and I realized we hadn’t taken out anything to make for dinner and were both feeling a bit restless. I suggested we go to one of our favorite towns, Burleson, to one of our favorite sit-down places to eat, the Old Texas Brewery. So we did! It was just so nice to go on a mini-date with my wonderful husband! Our server was Rachelle and she took great care of us. We had their mozzarella cheese sticks (our favorite appetizer) and the Bacon Craver burgers. Everything was really good – burgers a bit more done than I like but tasted good. We enjoy sitting outside and people watching although this afternoon it was pretty quiet. The weather was absolutely perfect — nice and cool.
After we ate, we went over to PetSmart and picked up some more Worlds Greatest Cat Litter (yep, that’s really it’s name!), a new water bowl for the dogs and chewy bones….cost more for them than our meal lol. Oh well, they are worth it. Their adoption fair was wrapping up…..always makes me sad to see so many dogs needing homes and at the end of the day remaining in foster care. I just prayed for them and put out the intention and hope that they will all get fantastic, loving forever homes eventually.
On the way out we were met by some folks from Victory Temple Ministries (Ft Worth) and they were doing a fundraiser. Unfortunately I didn’t have any cash on me but said that I have this blog and would mention their ministry. I am not a Christian or affiliated with any particular “label” for a religion BUT I do support people/organizations and groups who are trying to give people who have made some poor life choices or have just been handed a crappy hand of cards to play for a life a chance to recover, heal and begin again. When I was attending Trinity Presbyterian Church when I lived in Florida, I participated in the Celebrate Recovery Program along with attending AA Meetings and just really appreciated it so much! When you are lost and scraping the bottom of your life, it’s good to know there are people in the world who want to try and help you stand back up and get yourself back together.
When I encounter people who want to invite me to their church or support their church ministries I talk to them and usually we end up agreeing to disagree BUT I try to always thank them for what they are doing. They are trying to help people and sometimes their face and what they have to say may be the only kindness, the only hope some people have ever known. We may not agree about Jesus being the only way to eternal life but we do agree that there are a lot of folks in this world who need hope and some sort of guidance to get back into the light their lives are meant to be. To me, Jesus Christ is the absolute best thing about the Bible and Christianity. To me, he was one of the many great teachers that has been given to us through our shared history to try and bring peace and light to this sometimes very dark wilderness called Life. As my drawing message says, “We are all Sparks of the One Flame.”

Through a new Christ-centered life of discipline, prayer, praise, worship and serving, these men and women break free from their hopeless, meaningless, tired existence into a holy calling. The Men’s Home and Women’s Home both offer a free recovery program for the substance abuser who has a desire to change. Our approach has proven to be positive in incorporating the individual back into society as a contributing member.
MULTIPLYING THE EFFORTS TO TRANSFORM LIVES
Victory Temple mutiplies its efforts, by further training future Pastors and Home Directors through our leadership academy, then launching them out to their homeland to begin new Homes, Drop-In Centers and Churches. We are then able to transform their lives broken by addiction and a hopeless state of mind through the love and power of Jesus Christ.
